High Royds Map

Sitting within the Bradford district of West Yorkshire, High Royds – also known as Highroyds Village and officially designated as Chevin Park – is a residential neighbourhood with a character shaped by its history as the site of a large Victorian psychiatric hospital. The former High Royds Hospital, which once occupied the grounds, was converted into housing in the early 2000s, and the resulting development gave the area its current identity as a distinctive residential enclave. The neighbourhood sits close to the market town of Menston and lies within easy reach of the Wharfe Valley, with Otley and Ilkley accessible within a short drive.

Character and Setting

Much of the housing within Chevin Park occupies the converted Victorian asylum buildings alongside newer properties built on the former hospital grounds. The original structures, with their red brick facades and period architectural detail, give the neighbourhood a visual character that sets it apart from more conventional suburban development in the Bradford area. The surrounding countryside, including the elevated ridge of The Chevin to the north, adds an open, semi-rural feel to the locality.

Getting Around

High Royds is accessible by road from the A65, which connects the area toward Leeds to the east and Skipton to the west. Local bus services link the neighbourhood to Otley, Ilkley, and Bradford, and Menston railway station – on the Wharfedale Line – provides rail connections into Leeds city centre.
